A bee sits at the centre like the figure in a rose window, wings open, framed by scrolling foliage and a beaded ring that runs right round the edge. The body is warm honey-toned wood, the scrollwork is painted sage-green, and cream sits behind to lift the whole thing, each part laser-cut in layers of wood, finished in its own colour and stacked into relief. The colours go on as a natural oil woodstain, so the grain shows through the sage and the honey.

Rather than white, this one runs on brass hands, which pick up the honey and gold already in the wood. A quiet battery quartz movement keeps it ticking. The bee has long stood for industry, community and the life of the hive, an easy thing to like on a kitchen or hallway wall. Our own design, from our bench in Fife.
