There is no round dial here. The elephant's ears form the whole outline of the clock, spread wide and filled with ornate paisley and mandala work, the trunk running straight down the centre between two curved tusks. The top layers are a deep espresso brown, set over a teal and sage-green painted ground, with cream picking out the finest detail, all laser-cut in layers of wood, each finished in its own colour and stacked into relief.
Every colour is a natural oil woodstain, so the grain shows through even the deepest brown. A quiet battery quartz movement sits behind the face, and the white hands cross the pattern without hiding it. Elephants are long associated with wisdom, memory and a steady sort of good fortune, a fair thing to have watching over a room. Designed and built here in Fife.
