For anyone who likes a light left on, this owl makes a calm one. It's a round piece: an owl perched on a branch with its ear tufts breaking the top of the ring, framed by cut leaves and berries, all built up layer over layer of wood over a paler core so the feathers and big round eyes stand out.
Lit from the base, a soft light washes up through the cutwork, a warm red that suits a late evening or a cool blue-white that's easy to sleep beside, across seven colours, four modes and the brightness on a dial. Low, it's a night-light; up, it's the shape that draws the eye on a shelf.
Owls have long stood for wisdom and watchfulness, and for the night itself, which suits a lamp that earns its keep after dark. It runs from any USB with the plug in the box, ready for a child's room or a reading nook, and each one is our own design, laser-cut to order and oiled by hand here in Fife, Scotland, made by us and not bought in, usually two to seven days before it's sent.
