A wolf's face built up in layers of laser-cut wood, the mandala on the forehead opening like a flower right between the ears, above two watchful eyes. Each layer is painted its own colour and stacked by hand, sage green and cream lifting off the warm wood beneath, so the ruff and ears stand proud of the face and the whole piece casts a soft shadow on the wall behind it. The colours go on as natural oil woodstain, so the grain still reads through them.
In folklore the wolf is read as a sign of loyalty and the pull of the pack, one for anyone who feels the wild more than the crowd. Every strand of the fur is drawn and painted in by hand, layer on layer, so the head builds real depth as it turns to face the room.
It's our own drawing, painted by hand in the workshop here in Fife. We make each one to order, so allow a few days, usually two to seven, before it's on its way to you. It hangs from a single fixing and settles as well over a mantel as it does in a hallway or a study.
