How We Make Our Wooden Art: From Design to Your Doorstep

People often ask us: how do you make these? It's a fair question. When you hold one of our multi-layer wooden magnets or hang a photo frame on your wall, the craft that went into it isn't always obvious at first glance. So we thought it was time to pull back the curtain and show you exactly what goes into every DaVinci Enterprise piece — from the first sketch to the moment it arrives at your door.
Step 1: Design
Every piece begins as a design concept. Whether it's a Highland cow wearing a Santa hat or an intricate Flower of Life photo frame, our designs start digitally — sketched, refined, and then converted into precise vector files that guide our laser cutter. We spend time on each design making sure the layers will work together to create depth, shadow and visual drama when assembled.
Step 2: Laser cutting
Once the design is finalised, we feed sustainably sourced hardwood plywood into our laser cutter. The laser traces the design with extraordinary precision — cutting out every tiny detail, every interlocking layer. Depending on the complexity of the piece, a single item might require anywhere from three to six individually cut layers.
Step 3: Hand assembly
This is where the magic happens. Each layer is hand-assembled, carefully aligned to create the layered 3D effect that makes our pieces so distinctive. There's no machine that can do this part — it takes patience, a good eye, and a steady hand.
Step 4: Finishing with eco-friendly oils
After assembly, every piece is finished with nature-friendly oils that enhance the natural grain of the wood, deepen the colour, and protect the surface. We choose oils that are kind to the environment — no harsh chemicals, no synthetic coatings. Just the wood at its best.
Step 5: Personalisation (for custom orders)
For our personalised photo products — like our multi-layer photo frames and custom heart magnets — we print your chosen image directly onto the wood using UV-cured printing technology. The result is a warm, rustic look unlike any paper print. The image becomes part of the wood itself.
Step 6: Quality check and packaging
Before anything leaves our workshop, it goes through a quality check. We inspect every layer, every joint, every detail. Only then is it carefully packaged and sent to you — anywhere in the UK and beyond.
That's the DaVinci Enterprise process. Six careful steps, a lot of love, and a commitment to making something worthy of the person who receives it. Explore our collection and find your perfect piece.
